You need the 4-Way connectors.

OK,thanks 51fred.I can't understand why I was not supplied those when I bought my wiring harness?I got my wiring harness in under dash and all the gauges work and I can crank the truck up under the hood with solenoid button but can not crank it with button in dash.I checked the two wires that plug into it and both of them are showing current to them?Is this correct?I also have problem with headlight switch. It seems to work correctly except the dash lights will not turn off when button is pushed in??

I got my dash lights problem solved.I took switch out and double checked the wiring and tightened connections.Re-installed switch and works correctly now.Still have problem with starter button not working.

I wasn't supplied any of the connectors with my kit. I had to buy all the single and 4-way connectors. Wish I would have kept a count now. There are other locations I needed the 4-ways. Rear crossover and interior dome light to name a couple.

As far as the start switch goes, did you mean voltage at both wires? I'm not sure as my 51 only has 1 wire to the start button, but I believe one side should go to ground and hot (6 or 12 volts depending on your system) on the other. My switch grounds to the dash.

there is a nice picture that includes the headlight wiring in thread #2 above. The headlight issue you have is ptobably wiring issue at the switch

if you are 6volts only one wire goes to the back of the push button, the other end goes to the center post of the 3 post starterer selonid. One side is battery lead other side goes to starter, center post is lead from push button that supplies ground to operate the selonid.

hope this helps,

52's should have the 2-terminal starter button, and the matching relay that is "power to close". There shouldn't be power on both wires at the button. One should always be hot (key on or off), the other goes to the small terminal on the relay (solenoid).

ler me say it a differ3nt way. With 6volt positive ground the small middle terminal on the starter relay (selonid) should have 6 v on it as well as the wire on it that goes to one side of the starter push button. Not the other side of the button is ground. If it is a two te4minslpush button it has a wire that goes to a ground. If it is a single terminal push button it is grounded to the dash.

When end you push the starter button you place ground on the wire going to the middle terminal of the starter selonid. Operating the selonid and connecting the wire from the battery to tithe wire going to the starter itself.

hope this helps,

tom

Not true, Tom. If that is how yours is set up, it was changed to the 48-51 type of solenoid/relay. 52's and on have power to one terminal on the pushbutton, that is sent via the other terminal to the small solenoid terminal when pushed.

If your solenoid/relay has power on the small terminal all the time, it is the older type of solenoid that gets grounded to energize.

the copy of the 1951-1952 Ford trucks light dutyF1,F2,F3&hesvy duty F4’F5 and F6 wiring diagram I have shows ground on one side of the push button and a red wire with blue tracer on the other side going to the solenoid. Push the button and ground thru the button operates the solenoid. It is how my 52 is wired.

Regardless I hope this exchange helps Russ with his problem with the starter button.

Tom
