I posted a msg in the buying advice section. It obviously doesn't get much traffic. If any of you want to wander over and comment on my message "Long term reliability of a 3.5L dual turbo?" I'd appreciate it.
I was referring to the 3.5L dual turbo on the F150. I'm leaning toward the F250 or the V8 in the F150. Was hoping comments here would sway me solidly in one direction or the other.
The 3.5 Ecoboost has been getting stamped out for eight years with only one common teething issue that I'm aware of (the stalling when passing issue in humid areas). They solved that one years ago.
They hold up really well. Personally, I'd choose a 3.5 Ecoboost over a 5.0 V8 any time whether towing or not and even if I didn't live at 6,000 feet.
I had a 3.5 eco, have a 3.5 non eco base, and a 2.7 eco. Also have a 6.2 gas f250 and a 6.7 diesel f250.
The f150 has a “bumper integrated” type of tow hitch. Im going upgrade the hitch on my 2.7 eco (daily work truck) to a frame hitch.
The 6.2 F250 towed better than the 3.5 eco. Only where I would see the 3.5 eco shine in towing is like a bumper pull RV or something with a proper set up hitch; its not that great in a “pinch” picking up a heavy duty large trailer.
All of these trucks should go to 150k without major issues. The 3.5 eco and 6.2 run better on midgrade or premium gas.
My 3.5 eco ran great till I sold it at 44k miles and my 6.2 was great up to 150k miles and had a minor motor issue that was pretty cheap to fix. I’m selling the 6.2 and replacing it with the 2.7 eco.
