Couple of more questions for those of you who have had Ceramic coatings applied to your Super Duty Trucks;
1 - did it intensify the paint brilliance, i.e. reflective properties as advertised?
2 - has it proven to be scratch resistant as advertised, i.e. when you wash & dry your truck are you still getting & seeing surface scratches or swirl marks from towels, etc.?
3 - do you still need to have to periodically wax the truck after the application of the ceramic coating or just wash & dry only?
4 - for those of you that have had it (ceramic coating) on your truck for lets say, longer than 6-10, or 12 months, can you truly say that the appearance has remained the same since the day it (ceramic coating application) was done?
The cost is all about the preparation and labour. To do these jobs properly on a big vehicle like these trucks, it takes a couple full days of prep for a skilled detailer and then at least another day to do the application. Quiz the shop about how the prep the paint and how many hours it takes. If they don't impress you with that information, take your money elsewhere. There are four or five good shops in Calgary, so I'm sure Vancouver has at least that many. Ask around on forums where the guys with the supercars hang out. Those guys know who is taking enough care.
The ceramic coatings are “legit”. Pre application panel prep is everything with these products, so before you shovel the cash into the funace make sure the shop that applys it is professional and comes recommended by past clients. Value is subjective, but for 2 grand they better be correcting the substrate to show car perfection, and im talking “shinin’ like a diamond! There is alot of information online pertaining to the ceramic products, and tons of YOUTUBE videos covering pre app. prep as well as application. Substrate prep is tedious, but the actual application of the product is far from difficult. If you know how to detail a car, and you have the want to, you can certainly to it yourself and save a ton of cash in the process. Its not difficult, and its not magic.
I’m gettting my truck done. I just recently heard about the ceramic coatings and am sold on them. I work with several guys that have had their trucks and campers done and swear by it. My son-in-law just had his black F-150 done and it turned out absolutely beautiful. My local shop is charging $1300.

1. Yes it does enhance the paint, which is why prep is so important.
2. It does provide a barrier over the paint that protects it to a certain degree. Surface scratches and such are not nearly as prevalent.
3. No wax. Just wash and dry. Some dealers have a yearly maintenance they build into the pricing.
4. The coating on my vehicles has maintained the same luster it did when applied. Cant really see any degradation in the appearance. .
On anther note. To me anyway, one of the most advantageous reasons for the coatings is the ease of washing. It is so much easier to clean the vehicles now. Mine are black, and it has made cleaning them probably at least 70% easier.
Like I said, I'm going to have my truck done but can someone tell me if there is a difference between products out there? I see several shops doing ceramic coatings with different products (manufactures) are they all pretty much the same? The local guys uses Sapphire V1, I'm curious how it compares to Ceramic Pro and others?
It is all in the prep. You can buy a good clay bar and a quality sealer and do it yourself once a year and acheive the same results. The clay bar flattens out any imperfections in the paint, and a good sealer will last a year. You can do this for a lot less than a "ceramic" coating. It is still a polymer type sealer that is applied. The term "ceramic" comes from the glass like appearance it has when prepped correctly. There is no ceramic in it.

No clay bar made can do what a buffer and the proper cutting/polishing compound is capable of.
As mentioned does not make paint bulletproof. You still get scratches and stuff.
Do some research on washing your truck.
I use Optimum No Rinse. Watch youtube for methods.
It needs to become a commitment to get the best benefit.
That said I think it is worth the investment if you take care of it.
I have a black dually so I put in the time and effort and it looks great when clean.
I had a choice- Dually truck or Corvette. I chose the truck but take care of it like it was a Corvette.......
