reprograming ecu

2012 f350 cc 6.2 gas 2x4. So far been to 3 house mechanics and now im gonna pay for that mistake. So took the truck in first mechanic truck wouldnt turn off switched out the computer by the ac passenger side with a new box. Guy couldnt solve the problem and truck would no longer start. left took it to second mechanic. Second mechanic calls a day later says the ecu isnt the one for that truck its showing up as a 2013 4x4 with a different vin also couldnt start it. Left and took it to third mechanic who verified wrong ecu.. now what is required to reprogram a ecu or can i buy a used one same year and model. Do i need to go to the ford dealer with the vin and have them make me a new one with a key.

I'm sure you have to have it programmed to your vin number, if you keys aren't the ones the computer is programmed to it won't start.

As RVPuller stated...

to Ford... and a used ecu may not be allowed.. corporate and or dealer.

computer, keys. vin... coded..

just like a key not programed to your ECU... and its USED to try to start your truck.. the computer will lock down.. and only Ford dealer can correct this.'

so I hope you have the orignal ecu.. and the truck key for that ecu... take your title with you..

Got it started. Went to different places to ask for the ecu, nobody had it except for the dealer and they wanted 1k plus reprograming fee. So i looked for a used one for the same year, engine and model and actually found one for 185. One of the ecu parts store i had gone to gave me a number to a reprogramer. Reprogramer came and reset the computer with a a laptop under a hour for a benjamin. She starts now and nothing seems off, the truck starts and shuts off now, havent run the truck on the street.. easily would have spent close to 2k at the dealer. Lesson learned no more backyard mechanics their to money hungry.

you were Lucky.. you had a reprogrammer in your area..
when I lost the second key to my truck... I had to pay dealer for key and reprograming.. $ 250.00....

and warned.. if you FIND the lost key.. do not try to start the truck with it.. computer WILL lock down..
so have found key reprogrammed.

THANK YOU for reporting back.. and how the truck became fixed..
