Turn signal malfunction

hi, I need some help getting to the root of my turn signal issue.

77 f100 XLT Ranger.
Currently has an aftermarket steering wheel, which previous owner mentioned the auto cancel of turn signals doesn’t work with this one. The horn was also not working which I was able to fix by grounding the rag joint.

Then the my right turn signal keeps dying. I’ll replace the bulbs and it goes out after a few days. It starts by blinking very slow then the light stays illuminitaed on the the dashboard. But no turn signal is actually blinking.

If you remove the steering wheel, you'll see where the cancel lever is on the switch, and then you might be able to affix something to the underside of the wheel, which will trip the lever and turn off your signals.

Good job on the rag joint ground, I had to do the same thing to my '77.

Which bulb is burning out? Front, rear? The indicator in the dash?

It started with front, then back.

The weird thing that just now started happening is that when the car lights are on, and the turn signals are NOT activated, the dashboard light of that malfunctioning turn signal is steady full bright on.

Im actually wanting to go back to the original steering wheel (which previous owner left with me)!

You likely have two related issues I think. If the AM wheel was put on with the little step or rod that trips the cancel finger, the finger gets broken … I know first hand, and no Dorman will last as long as OEM did.

The issue with the light glowing, sounds like a fault in the TS switch itself …. just my guess.

I put a couple new switches in mine before I finally just cut the self cancel fingers off and installed a loud flasher that tic-tocks. With my seats, my now tight steering, the 14.5" wheel is just way more comfortable than that huge OEM wheel.

That little box to left of wheel with two buttons and switch is for Dana cruise control "control" as I didn't have a signal arm with switches to use. Set/coast button, redume button, on/off switch.

I have not yet had a need to ground the rag joint, but I'll keep it in mind.
