2013 F150 4x4 issue

I have a 2013 F150 that will not engage 4x4. When the 4wd **** is turned to 4hi the "check 4x4" comes up on the display. The IWE are disengaging when the truck is started and will engage after truck sits shut off for awhile so I am certain the vacuum system and solenoids are working correctly. I am getting a p1867 code which is fault of the contact disk system. The TCM was replaced about a year ago. I took the contact disk sensor out and rotated the "D" shaped shaft both directions and reinstalled with no change. I also marked the TCM shaft and engaged 4x4 and shaft did not move. I have checked the fuses and they seem o.k. I disconnected the TCM electrical plug with ign on and 4x4 **** in 4HI I checked for power at plug with test light and found no power in any of the pins.
There does not seem to be a lot of info available as far as the electrical checks or operation of the 4x4 selector switch or TCM instead there is loads of info on the IWE. Any electrical diagnosing tips of the selector **** and TCM is appreciated.

After you reinstalled the contact disk motor did you clear the DTC store in the computer before trying to engage the 4x4? Also did you check the wire harness for signs of corrosion and/or cracks in the wire insulation and the wire harness at all. A quick Bing search of this DTC revealed that it could be an issue with the transfer case shift motor, contact disk, and or a short in the wire harness for the shift motor. Be sure to check both the wire harness connector and the transfer case shift motor connector and ground wires for corrosion as well. Once all of that is done then you might just have to bite the bullet and replace the transfer case shift motor. It just may be too far gone to do fix with the simple quick fix of rotating the contact disc.

The p1867

Yes, the 4x4 woldn't engage. A "check4x4" and a wrench is shown instead. The DTC of p1867 is present. Checked shift motor and found : when turn from 2h to 4h, shift motor turns a bit and then goes backwards to tje initial position. Cleaned the contact disc for the shift motor. Took away the DTC by disconnecting the battery. No good results. Any ideas? Thank you!

P1867 has 3 main possibilities for problems.

P1867 FORD Possible Causes

  • Faulty Transfer Case Shift Motor
  • Transfer Case Shift Motor harness is open or shorted
  • Transfer Case Shift Motor circuit poor electrical connection
I think I would try to run the shift motor separate, away from the transfer case .......... and take a good look at the wires.

Thank you a lot. I have checked the motor and sensor positions separately. Seems to be fine. Must carry on with the wires.
