Convertor damage is unlikely, since the only change is no overdrive clutch use.
Snipping the converter lock up line wont keep the trans from going into OD.It will still shift to 4th,the final OD gear.Your converter will remain unlocked.
It almost seems like your converter wasn't momentarily unlocking between shifts since snipping that line seemed to fix your shifting issue.
If your going to leave your trans as is,then at the very least you should put a toggle switch on that line you cut.Leave it off/open while shifting and then once up to speed, toggle it on and let your converter lock. You'll get much better fuel economy and your trans temps will stay in check.

The OD light might blink once the trans gets to dangerous trans temp levels but how ya gunna know when it's already flashing cus you snipped
the converter lock line and the trans already sent you into limp mode and the OD lights already flashing (with the converter slip code tripped)?
If your gunna run it without a locked converter and with firm shifts in limp mode,at least get a trans temp gauge. The old school 3 speeds like the C6 didn't have locking converters but them suckers run hot all the time too.

Well fixing up the old truck might be the least of your worries then.In this case,I recommend selling the truck and buying a boat!
The toggle switch may work, but why beat a dead dog? I have had 2 of these trucks and they both (ist was brand new in the box) and they would get a breathtaking 7 mpg. They were rated when new at 11mpg cityand 17mpg highway. The new ones first tank-8mpg. The PCM raises the EPC pressure when it dtects an issue. The truck was basicly undrivable as lt was. If you unplug the rear speed sensor you get kneck snapplng shifts.

Cutting the wire to the TC solenoid has nothing to do with overdrive. It will still shift to overdrive (fourth gear) but the torque converter clutch won't lock.
I know what you are saying about overdrive, Cuttin g the wire made it shift like new. There is no violent shaking. or heavy misfire. I realize that there could be problems comin g. The valves would rattle so bad people would look over. With the mileage on lt the valve guides are probably about gone. 200,100 miles. no engine work at all. I dont think a mercedes could shift any better.
That shows that the trans itself appears to be fine. I think what you're seeing is that the torque converter is locking right after the 2-3 shift. That appears to be another shift. It's the way the PCM was programmed, and I agree it's not good, but that is the way it was designed.
The stock TC clutch control is so frustrating. This was the reason I switched the the US Shift Quick 4 controller. It's much better but it still doesn't have really good TC control.
That's an under statement as to frustration. I had another and was told ( Buy this billet front torque convertor $500.00, and all will be good. Wrong! no change at all. If you have been reading what i have done, maybe it would work on yours. Min e is shifting very smooth and consistant. No MIL light, Tcs works great, On- shift, off -shift.
Just wanted to report on the E4OD transmission shift issue. After 2 full days of driving, PCM is very happy. Not an easy task in itself! 4th comes in around 40 mph. Shifts in and out with TCS very smooth. I have driven ford E4OD equipped vehicles for a long time. I have never seen or had one to shift any better. It is better than the new one I bought in 92 (had 3 miles on it). Lt had what ford calls running over rumble sticks issues from day one.I call it the torque clutch is a JERK! Pun intended. Thanks to all. I off to drive my new Ford F150 XLT 4x4 truck that has been taken apart bolt and nuts, Everthing is as new as my other one. 1992
Is that with the converter line re-connected and everything? So what was the problem or will you ever know since you replaced so many parts at the same time?
No. Torque convertor is out of the picture. I have no idea what caused this to happen. I have lights and meters on the affected circuits, and can find nothing.
Afterthaught: I would like for someone out there with trans problem close to mine, and has nothing to lose, cut the ppl/yellow wire and tell me what happens. The harness is very easy to get to at the trans-2wd, or transfer case crossmember.
