For my ford trucks: The same thing was an answer to marks question. Read it all.
How was that an answer to his question? You didn’t say what it did when manually shifting the transmission.
First 2 times manually shifting it was fine but the third time it started shaking? When and in what gear: 1, 2, or D? What does the od light and “thumped down” stuff mean?
I just drove the truck. od off, 10 mph great 1-2 shift. 20mph , it went to 22-25 mph and shifted smootly into third.
That's nice. When you have a chance please try what I asked. I'm not able to help any further until I get an answer to what I asked.

Be more specific. Describe each shift that Mark prescribed and what gear the transmission shifts into as a result.
Sorta like this: Ok, I turned off OD and started off with the shift lever in 1. (fill in here what happened next)

Mark. I made certain that the overdrive was turned off. I placed the gearshift lever in 1 and at exactly 10 mph moved the gearshift lever to 2. Transmission immediately shifted to 2. At exactly 20 mph i moved the gearshift lever to OD. The transmission shifted to 3 at 23 mph.

That shows that the trans itself appears to be fine. I think what you're seeing is that the torque converter is locking right after the 2-3 shift. That appears to be another shift. It's the way the PCM was programmed, and I agree it's not good, but that is the way it was designed.
Thank you very much. That seems to be exactly what it is doing. Just one more question. Why would it have gone 12 months without doing this? And would a oem Ford PCM help any.

Is "do this" shifting 2-3-converter lock- OD while in the D position only, all shifts that are occurring right next to each other without just a second or so apart?
If I'm understanding what your saying correctly all your shifts are right on top of each other, other than the first shift you feel and the following shifts seem to be stacked right on each other. Is this correct?
Yes, that is/ was correct. After Marks last reply of his diagnosis, I put on my thinking cap. I cut the ppl/yel to the solenoid pack, and bingo, transmission shifts absolutely perfect. The wire is the TCC solenoid. I have no use for overdrive. Mark said this was Fords design. Well, ole Ron redesigned it for my driving style. Thanks all for your help and comments. Hope this works for someone else with this situation. Will let you know if it grenades to death.
Just one last bit, when i wrote my new member thread, I should have said a little more. I am retired, with 53 years Auto T ech service. I have seen a lot, and done a lot. Even so there is always that one problem that keeps you up all night. Mine was one of those. After you fool with something so long CRS sets in.
You'll put the trans into limp mode though Ron and it will shift really firm. Also without the converter locked, your trans temp will go up much, much higher.
I'm surprised you can even feel the converter locking without a shift kit and the truck "shaking really bad" (post 5) makes me suspect perhaps you've got a failing converter. If it goes,it will wipe out the trans by sending it's metal particulates throughout the trans.
I installed a new convertor Saturday. Also main valve body, solenoid pack, rear speed sensor, PSOM. ABS module. Criuse control Amplifier. Shifts are very smooth. Convertor damage is unlikely, since the only change is no overdrive clutch use. Pcm will monitor the temp for problems. Regardless of the outcome, I am very pleased with the transmiission operation. It wasn't worth a crap like it was with the shaking and valve rattle. I will do another line pressure test if it ever stops raining here. I saw a man named Noah at city hall getting a building permit and animal liscenses
