what are some recommendations for the best programmers for a 2018 f350 drw? I don’t plan on doing any deletes. Maybe exhaust and that would be the extent of it. Would it even be worth it to put a programmer to the truck. I know it can pull just about anything but was considering a programmer for a little extra HP
Several out there to chose from but they will show to have broken into the ECM so Ford will know this and it will be an issue if they need to every hook yours up for anything that requires repair or service, Read your supplied warranty statement very carefully before you do anything. That being said on the last few trucks (not this one yet) used the duration modules that hook into the harness after the computer. No tracks that way but good luck.

on a ford 6.7 diesel exhaust changes IS a delete... otherwise all you are doing is changing the last 4 ft, an the tips at the end of the pipe..
I'm not aware of any programmer that does anything without doing a delete..
Well being that you are new to oil burners read this article. These are made for the Ford as well, they all work the same way. After reading do some more research on them they are not for everyone but I like them in today's no tampering environment....
starting in 2008, ford made a change to improve the apparent pollution status of the diesel trucks. They added a filter in the exaust pipe flow that captures all the black smoke (carbon).
of course, this filter will fill up and clog eventually... SO, at some point, based on sensors and miles , they throw some raw fuel in the exhaust to start a fire in the filter, to burn up all the accumulated carbon.
unless the sensors tell the computer earlier, there is a failsafe, that does this fuel into the exhaust about every 500 miles..
if u do more city ,start/stop driving, then this could happen as often as every 100 miles..
this fire in the filter is called regen (it is regenerating capacity to hold carbon)..
the filter is called DPF, Diesel Particulate (carbon) Filter
to remove the exhaust, you must remove this filter.. AND somehow convince the computer to stop sending fuel down the pipe at least every 500 miles.. this requires some kind of tuning/programming.
most of the companies that do this also tweak the computer for different fuel/air mixture ratios to improve mileage or improve power.., can't have both...
this tuning can also stress the engine/tranny, and ford, like other vendors, has added more detection of these kinds of mods to prevent paying for customer caused issues...
on my 08 dually, I saw less than 10 % mileage improvement from the dpf delete.. i saw more power, which caused tranny slip... I took the delete off..
i don't need more power... both my 2012 and now my 2018 can pull a house... i wish I had the 3.55 rear... as I drive most of my time not towing the 5th wheel...
but changing gears would cost more than any money I would save on fuel. (buying a beater car would do that too what with, car, ins, gas, maint)
Ford is being sued in a number of courts on emissions (example below) and my guess is one of the future agreements will be to make the computer "off limits" to programmers..................they'll encrypt the microcode, tables, etc add other "vault" related safeguards...........onboard the sensor inputs will be sent "raw" to the CPU and they'll use decryption / encryption inbound / outbound...............IDS will also have to be modified to view these encrypted elements....................and the whole system will end up READ ONLY......................... updates will likely be limited to dealer-only variants of IDS................with huge configuration, security controls.............
I am a duramax guy turned psd guy (for now). That being said I am more than comfortable with banks power. They are in beta testing for the Derringer tuner. This is an add on (plug and play) unit that continually monitors the truck to give or take power away to keep the truck alive. Other tuners out there are a mix between max effort and stock levels (safety is usually in the hands of the user). Tuners are usually emissions intact. Programmers are usually used with doing a delete. Programmers can be shift on the fly with using different tables with a dial that changes the air intake temp Iirc. Some tuners with do shift on the fly too (changing power levels) .
That being said I am waiting for banks to release specs before I make a decision on what I am going to do. I want to keep emissions present because it's a royal pain in the **** to get rid of a deleted truck in NY even though there aren't any emissions testing on vehicles over 8k pounds.
Any power adders will void any power train warranty. These all modern trucks monitor torque output and if there are ever any readings over stock, poof goes your warranty. All the discussions on which this or that won't void your warranty? If you change the torque output from the pcm (programmers) or intercept and hijack units (tuners) no warranty should be expected. I don't put a lot of weight to the people's statements that say they have a good repore w/ their dealer. Ford doesn't pay dealers for work until they are oked to do the work. There are over 100 services that the dealers have to get ford's consent for them to pay for.
I bought this psd because it is programmable (new l5p duramax hadn't been cracked yet) and it is a lot nicer truck than gmc is putting out. Yes, I am going to void the warranty. Yes, I want a 9k pound truck to do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. Yes, I want to hook up a monster 42 foot fifth wheel and be reliable. Diesel is the best at all of the above.
NC - check out Stealth programmers too. Should be emissions safe and it’s an easy plug & play, supposedly non-detectable. It alters fuel flow & rail pressure. I don’t have one but it “looks” like a safe alternative to a delete.

thet don't remove the DPF where most of the extra consumption goes
