All of a sudden, sitting still, the truck won't turn but LOTS of hollering from the pump, which is pumping because I can see fluid flow in the reservoir. Get it moving just a bit and it steers fine. No noise until you get the wheels turned fully right or left then it growls, but not as much as when trying to turn sitting still. What's going on? Pump or steering box? Fluid isn't dark and doesn't smell burnt and no air bubbles.
For whatever reason, the center sheared out of the pulley, but the pump isn't locked up and still turns freely. With 216K on it I just replaced them both with an Advance reman (only because I had to get it back on the road). It didn't even break or burn the belt, but it did get to sit in a BAD part of Little Rock overnight and it's back on the road this morning.
I don't disagree that the pump was probably getting tired as it was factory.
