Howling power steering pump!
74 with a 390 and the metal can reservior type pump. 2 weeks ago replaced the old leaky pump with a reman (A1 Cordone) only one available) made the typical howling sound they do when air is in the system. Turned the steering back and forth pin to pin and it got quieter but never really stopped and as it gets hotter it gets louder. Discovered they require Type F fluid and not PS fluid so I flushed the system last weekend the best I could and its a little better but still howls as though it has air in it. Pulling the output shaft on the the sterring box loose and dumping the pump this weekend to completley change the fluid. Pump that was put in seem to be a bit stiff turning by hand. Any thoughts on any thing else would help
Parts supply is offering another pump but I can barely turn it at all by hand which seems strange to me. A little resistance is to be expected but to need a wrench to turn a pump shaft

Well if it is hard to turn with the belt off and the hoses dissconected then I would guess some one did a bad job of building that pump. Thye should turn freely just by hand at least any I ever replaced did.
