Brake Pads

Lots of brake pads out there....my Ex has 100k on it. I want to drive it 100 more. What do you recommend front and rear? Thanks

I've been running Wagner Brake pads for a couple of months now, probably ~3K miles. So far, they have performed very well. The EX stops when I want it to

I have used a variety of different pads over the years but some of mine have wore out prematurely due to the slider pins seizing up. For the fronts I know some people have had great luck with EBC pads.

Yup, I've been running Wagner on everything I own for years. Very low dust and great stopping power, even when hot.

I agree with pirate4x4. For brake performance, wear and low dust Hawk LTS is the best for the X. Will be a little pricey and well worth the extra $.

I went with power stop set up...slotted rotors, calipers and pads set up.

My 69 Mustang was hardly stopping with my new slotted rotors and semi-metallic pads from SSBC. I put a set of EBC Yellow Stuff on the front and now it stops. Hawkperformance might be as good, but I only wanted to do this once and get it right. Not that I'd use the Yellow on my EX, but they do seem to bite much better on my Stang.

If you use EBC Yellow stuff pads on your Excursion, they will stop great, create TONS of dust, and chew through your rotors. Ask me how I know.

I now use Hawk LTS pads and cryo rotors. Looks like you can get two rotors and a set of pads from Amazon for about $395.

I've been looking at Hawk LTS pads and Cryo rotors too (Frozen Rotors, to be specific)

Does anyone have any advice on good calipers for all round?

I would go Motorcraft on calipers. That's what I just put on. They're supposed to be pretty good and my set of Napa premium calipers lasted three years before they froze up.

While you're at it, you may as well add a set of Russell stainless steel brake lines. They much improved pedal feel on my Excursion - of course, this was over the original, 18 year-old hoses.

Here's the link for the set that fix the Excursion:

And don't forget to do a full complete brake fluid flush, getting all of the old, dirty and wet fluid out will make the entire system feel much better.

Had that done just two weeks ago when my rear brake line failed me.

Frozen Rotors are quoting me on a full set of their calipers (they only have fronts listed on their website). They are expensive, but they are not rebuilds and I figure if I'm putting in their pricey rotors, I may as well go all out.

One of the easiest jobs to do is, rebuilding your original calipers.
