Is there a kit to adapt it to an electronic system?
What shape is the housing in? Is it resting on an exhaust pipe? Is there a sharp bend in the housing? A measurement from the chewed up cable part will give you an idea of where to look.

Very interesting article, wish they had used a Ford for the story.

I’ll let you know when I put the new cable in, last time I replaced it I really didn't give the speedometer much thought.

while we're on cable cleanup. Im back on the site with another engine swap question, I am resto-moding a 65 f100, I put in a 351w (from 79), and a c6 (from 77) I am having the tranny worked on now bcs it skips 2nd gear on shifts, (it pulls like a diesel in 3rd though), anyhow... I am having trouble getting my speedo gearing worked out, if I run the calculation it says I need a 12 tooth gear??? lowest I can find is a 16 tooth gear. 3.00 Rear (probably 3.08) normal C6 gearing and 30" tires. Is my calculation right. Speedo is way off. The stock 3 speed was very similar in gearing to the c6, so I thought I wouldn't have to change it but it is way off, am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks Big Al

Ford Speedometer Gear Calculator
According to this you have to know the # of teeth on the drive gear in the trans . On the C6 I don't think you can change it.
You might have to get into the speedometer head

yea, I talked to summit and some other places and they said it should have 6 teeth in the transmission. I think I have it figured out at 18.5 teeth which would either be and 18 or 19 tooth so I bought both and will try them out. It's still in shop for tranny repairs... going on 9 days...

Here is what the core looked like after 1,000 miles. I put another new cable on the speedometer and took some videos.

That cable was seized somewhere. Enough lube on the new one? Sure there is no sharp bend in the housing?

Yep, the cable was still wet with oil. I made sure to have as few bends as possible, could this have happened from over tightening?
