I am in need of tips on setting up the distributor. I have no marks/settings to reference since tearing the engine down and rebuilding. Thanks for any help
White out is great for marking things. Dollar tree sells little white out pens that give a nice little stripe. Take your distributor and put the cap on it. Mark the side of the distributor where #1 is at on the cap. Take the cap off and put the rotor on. Remember the rotor will turn with the gears as you put the distributor in. You need to try to anticipate the spin of it so that once all the way down, the vacuum advance has room to let you adjust the timing without hitting any of the intake. Just remember you have to find Top Dead Center. Are you using a new harmonic balancer? You want an accurate reading on it. An old one that has slipped a little can really frustrate you.
