Dorman ICP Issues?

Hello all, out of curiosity has anybody had problems with the dorman ICP sensor? While changing orings one evening I hit the sensor with a ratchet and panicked went to O’Reilly at 9:45pm and frantically bought a dorman ICP sensor. Lately I have noticed a vibration around 12-1600 in overdrive, and white smoke until warm and occasionally while warm intermittent on the smoke some times doesn’t smoke when cold. I have been racking my brain I ordered a new CPS from riffraff should be here this week it’s the dark grey with purple o ring, I currently have the light grey one installed. Not sureif the ICP sensor can cause this behavior just thinking back on recent parts I replaced since I don’t recall this prior. The truck is a 01 F250 4x4 if that helps. Thanks in advance!

I used one in my old truck and about 20 miles from home and about 500 miles after I installed it the sensor blew out of the hole literally leaving the threads in the hole. Dumped the oil all over the place and made a royal mess. As has been said countless times on here “you get what you pay for”, buy OEM sensors. I learned this lesson the hard way, the cheaper price is awesome but you’ll spend more in the long run...

Thank you for the reply! I think the thing that irks me is I was in a bind, and the damn dorman was $185 bucks!! Could’ve got one from riffraff for cheaper. I’m gonna have to suck it up and replace it. To bad I couldn’t return the dorman! Do you think the ICP can cause the vibration and occasional smoke?

Unless you need the truck for a long trip or heavy towing you could leave broken sensor in the hole(long as it's not leaking oil) and drive it till the new one comes in. It will run with the sensor unplugged.

not real sure, I do know that my current truck that I bought used was running rough at idle and had some vibration at hwy speed. I did check the ICP sensor and it was a cheapo from autozone so I replaced it with OE and all my rough idle and surging did stop.

Why can’t you return it? What was the warranty on it?

worst case, put the Riffraff one in, and throw the other one in the glove box for if you ever get in a bind in the future.

Come to think of it I believe it had a lifetime warranty I may as well swap it, may not be the culprit of my issue but at least I will know it’s OEM.

As a shop owner that sees hundreds of dorman products a year, I would replace it with OEM just because.

Hold onto it as a spare or to help someone troubleshoot in the future.
