IPR % on startup

Just wanted to check what values I should be seeing at startup for IPR percentage. I have an 05 Excursion, starts up quickly hot or cold. Has updated standpipes, dummy plugs, and STC Fitting replaced with updated parts. However, a Dieseltech Ron video was just posted on a crank/no start thread and I could swear I heard him say IPR should go no higher than 30% on startup. I’ve seen mine go up to 60 😳 Does this mean I likely have a leak in my high pressure oil system somewhere?

Someone who knows will give you the right answer, but DTR may have been referring to the value after it starts, but before it warms up.

I was wondering about this as well. I have a 2005 with updated STC, etc, but have seen startup IPR numbers in the 60-70% range. Use 5w-40 oil changed every5-7K, but no issues( knock-on-wood) with IPR after warmed up.

I think...and am hoping...you are correct. After cold startup mine is around 30, and when warm idle is at 22-24. He also mentioned under heavy acceleration you may see as high as 70 or so, even 80 with some tunes...but usually at 80 it is compensating for a leak. I floored it today and it didn’t go above 67 so I’m hoping I’m good!

Plus I don’t have any other symptoms, it starts right up when hot and cruising along at 75mph it is between 30 and 40 on fairly level ground. But seeing that spike on startup scared me! 😬

40-60% is typical when cranking according to Ford. With a fast crank and quick start, you may not see that high.

Thanks for the info! I’ve seen a brief spike to 70 or so when starting hot, but no long cranks. Engine fires up within a second of the start of cranking.

Don't look so hard for a problem that isn't there. If you were seeing 30% IPR at a hot idle then yeah, I'd look deeper.

I got nothing else to do while driving a thousand miles from home and a hundred miles from anywhere. Once you break down out there a few times, it's hard not to worry. Still can't believe I made it to Anchorage and back without a problem.
