I know it is easy to be misunderstood in forums. My post certainly is not meant to say that I "advocate that Rain-X is dangerous." Yes, it's true that I don't like the tiny ***** behind the wipers lighting up with oncoming lights. Yes, it's true that I'm saying that I find the view clearer without Rain-X when using wipers at night with oncoming headlights. I'm not, however, saying that using Rain-X is dangerous. I'm simply sharing my experience here.
I find that on humid rainy nights, as we often get in my area, I can see better without Rain-X. I've tried the product multiple times on multiple vehicles. My windshield is dry right behind my wipers without it. With it, I have lots of tiny water droplets that take time to evaporate with each wiper stroke. I find the view better without using it. The worst performance I've seen is the transition period when Rain-X is wearing off, but not completely gone.
Running mine using the PIAA and the Rain-x concentrate in the washer tank my windshield is clear as a bell. Ran them in the rain this morning between 40 and 60 mph for 20 miles never had to use the wipers. Your experience may vary but for me this combination is perfect. Below say 30 mph it is harder for the wind to blow off the water but after time you learn how drive letting the coating take care of the water. On the Rain x will say if you use too much it will leave a slight film but it does not on mine because I follow the instructions on usage and the PIAA wipers help as well.

I've been using Rain-X treatment for years and as long as I live where I do I plan to continue. If I lived somewhere with lots of misty rain then I'd re-consider. Back lighting from street lights on a mist covered windshield can be awful.
I have loved the Rain-X washer fluid in my previous vehicles. I'm hearing now that it can cause issues with the sensors in the reservoir in newer vehicles. Any issues noted?
Yes. I ran rain x in my old Chevy without issue but in our previous suv it trashed the sensor. $275 repair that was covered under warranty thankfully. If you google rain x issues you will find tons of problems and even a class action lawsuit that is in the works regarding the damage the rain x washer fluid has created.
For any of you interested I have a gallon and a half ready to ship sitting in my garage. Once the sensor failed I drained it out of my vehicles.
I just replaced my NAPA Proformers after (exactly!) 400 days. I’ve always presumed that the UV light that comes with living at >6,000 feet above sea level is to blame for the typical 6 month wiper blade lifespan that I've experienced. I’m replacing them with Bosch Icons which I bought with <6 months on the Proformers.
What I’d like to know is if I am the only one who regards changing wipers as a difficult to pass IQ test. I removed the first one in <2 minutes and and it took a little longer to replace the first. Removing the second one seemed to take twice as long. I think that the little lever has a counter and you need to flex it 17 times, always doing the exact same thing, and then it works. It doesn’t work on the 16th time. Installing the second one didn’t seem to demand more then 3 or 4 brain cells at a time so that was OK.
My drivers side ( of course) started smearing and was shot within 500kms, popped in the dealership and they put another motocrap one on for free ( I knew that had 6 month warranty ) as I drove home it was smearing again, its gotta be something on my windshield
neighborhood cat pissin on the windshield? lol! my coworker had that happen to him before, some cat made it a habit to pee pee right near the blower, so he smelled it every time he turned the air on lol
Never knew about rainx damaging the sensor. Just picked up two gallons from costco the other day. We have a VW Atlas, a Subaru outback and the Ford. Guess I'll give that away or chuck it!
