Another thing I've learned... never use Rain-x. Rain-x makes glass very hydrophobic. This means that water REALLY wants to form ***** instead of sheeting. This is fine if your wipers aren't on, but if they are on at night, they leave tons of teeny tiny water ***** on the windshied. Not cool when the oncoming car lights them up. With the normal hydrophilic property of glass, water sheets. This allows it to sort of stick to the back of the wiper blades for a dry windshield.
Absolutely untrue. I don't understand how you can advocate that Rain-X is dangerous.
I work 3rd shift. 90% of my driving is at night. You WANT water droplets to "form *****" as you say, or bead up on the windshield. This leaves a larger area of the windshield clear to see through and less "sheeting" to scatter the light coming through.
After driving my Ram so long with Rain-X, and getting in my Ford with the factory fill washer fluid...it's a night and day difference! Rain-X is much, much safer to drive behind...especially at night!
I drained the washer fluid tank on my truck in the first month I owned it just so I could fill it with Rain-X.

I have loved the Rain-X washer fluid in my previous vehicles. I'm hearing now that it can cause issues with the sensors in the reservoir in newer vehicles. Any issues noted?
The 303 technique works great. I get my Motorcraft WW2247 wipers from Rock Auto. 11.48 each with plus shipping cost. So I pay less then 29.00 for them. I usually have a coupon for 5% off. The dealer wants 45.00 for 2 of them.

I've never had an issue. If I did, I would rig up a bottle with normal fluid in it under the hood and stick the sensor in there.

I treated both my and my wife's windshield with Aquapel applicators. After that, any windshield cleaning is done with either Aquapel or RainX foaming glass cleaner. Very happy with the results. My only complaint would be that the Aquapel applicators are a little pricey. But it's not like you have to renew the treatment once a week.
I've also been thinking about draining my washer tank. I've owned the truck since the end of August 2017 and it still has a ton of factory fluid in it. Meanwhile there's a gallon of RainX fluid that's been sitting in the garage forever.

I know it is easy to be misunderstood in forums. My post certainly is not meant to say that I "advocate that Rain-X is dangerous." Yes, it's true that I don't like the tiny ***** behind the wipers lighting up with oncoming lights. Yes, it's true that I'm saying that I find the view clearer without Rain-X when using wipers at night with oncoming headlights. I'm not, however, saying that using Rain-X is dangerous. I'm simply sharing my experience here.
I find that on humid rainy nights, as we often get in my area, I can see better without Rain-X. I've tried the product multiple times on multiple vehicles. My windshield is dry right behind my wipers without it. With it, I have lots of tiny water droplets that take time to evaporate with each wiper stroke. I find the view better without using it. The worst performance I've seen is the transition period when Rain-X is wearing off, but not completely gone.
