Exposed EGR Valve??

My egr valve is exposed and still plugged in so I figured i would ask around on here to see what you all thought the reasoning or purpose of this might be. Google and YouTube have both been unable to help with this question. I assume the plate underneath it is a way of blocking or deleting the egr. Here is a pic to help understand.

Some say the egr valve needs to be left plugged in for proper engine fan operation, even when the system is deleted.

I have an 05 and have not seen any difference in fan operation when I’ve done long tests with the valve plugged in or unplugged. Your truck may be different.

Ok thank you. I'll see if I notice a difference in fan usage with it unplugged for awhile.

Keeping it plugged in after a delete also keeps it from throwing an EGR code.

Mine still had a code with the valve plugged in, I think for EGR flow or something? But the CEL wasn’t on

I still had the code but my tuner allowed me to just remove it.
