Programmer to clear egr cel

An SCT Tuner plus a tune package from either Gearhead tuning or Innovative Diesel is what I have and am pretty happy.
Depending on what you do with the truck and if you're studded or not will help your decision. If no studs stick with a tow tune. Running any tunes i highly recommend installing an EGT gauge too. Check out their websites. I have tunes from both and variety of 6 different tunes from X-treme tunes to the safer Tow tunes and in between.

As no one has posted a link here is one for GH. https://www.ghtuning.com
You get the tuner from them also. You will be asked what program strategy you
have an if you don't know they send a program for you by email. What happens
is you get the tuner and use it to find the strategy.
Also here is a link for SCT

You pay to play and sometimes you're on borrowed time once you load a tune. Gearhead's Unlimited tow is stock power plus a modded shift strategy.

I purchased the SCT tuner with 3 tunes installed from them. 8k tow, unlimited tow, and SRL (street race lite). I am assuming I'll run SRL for my daily driver and switch to unlimited tow when towing. Can anyone tell me the process for clearing the egr code? They said it was a setting in the tuner and not the tune itself that clears the cel. Also how do you switch from one tune to another?
Thanks,
Mike

If you use a canned tune then disabling the EGR is "in the tuner", but if you load a custom tune it's already done. However a custom tune can still allow options so the tuner may decide to allow EGR on/off to be an option. In that case you'll go through the options menu before you actually load the tune as part of the process. Switching is just loading a different tune. It will all be clear and intuitive once you have it in your hands.

I am interested to learn this also.
* Sct 3 vs 4
* I read somewhere there are versions for custom tunes only, or builtin tune only, some for both. Pretty confusing to me.
* Also, there is number if married or something like that.
* Is the number of tunes limitted.
* I understand I don't have to have it plugged in
while driving, is that true?
* Anything else I missed?
I also read of hardware quality issue, is that true?

I ordered for 4 but I know very little about it and honestly the guy I talked to on the phone at Gear Head also seemed to know very little about the device so I guess I'll "wing it" when it comes in today. I would like to know the difference between to 8k tow and the tow anything. I'm not sure why you wouldn't just use the tow anything for all towing

This is copied right from their website. All this info is out there. And tons of videos on the tuner itself.
8000 Lb Tow (8K Tow)
This tow file is rated for 8000 pounds of towing without being studded. Studded trucks can tow 13000 pounds with this file.
Unlimited Tow
Since this file maintains stock fuel parameters, it can tow whatever you want while giving better shift firmness than stock.

The X3 is just for loading tunes, yes it can only hold a limited number of tunes. You can run as many different tunes as you like, the limit is just in how much it can store at once.
The X4 is a little newer and also lets you monitor some engine parameters if you leave it connected.
Yes they do become "married" but that doesn't limit how many times you can use it to tune the same vehicle, it does limit if you can move it to a different vehicle. I don't know what the limit is for those. My Livewire allows 3, I'm on vehicle number 2. This ability however is only allowing it to move from one vehicle to the next, you can't move it to a new vehicle without using it to return the previous vehicle to stock. You can't use a single tuner to have multiple vehicles tuned simultaneously as far as I know. There may be licensing packages you can purchase to allow this, but you probably really need a tuner per vehicle.
You don't need to leave it plugged in, it does not run the vehicle it only passes on the programming to the computers. It's not like a "chip" either. If you have the X4 and want to use it to see data too then you need it plugged in to read the data but that's it.
I haven't had any quality issue with my SCT Livewire but maybe that's different for an X3 or X4, I don't know. My guess would be though that people who have issues aren't taking care of it.
8k tow is a transmission tune plus a little bit of engine tuning for horsepower. Max tow is a transmission tune only. In a diesel more power is more heat, towing more load is also more heat. There is an upper limit to how much heat the engine can handle so when it comes to towing heavy you need to give up some power because of all the weight or you run things too hot and stuff breaks.
