SCT X3 Advice needed

Hello,

Now is the time to purrchase a new tuner for my 2004 6.0 PSD and I need advice from those that have it. I have a few questions:

-Is it necessary to purchase the SCT from a vendor that also sells custom tunes or can I buy an SCT off of, lets say Amazon, and then buy custom tunes as needed?

- I have heard some horror stories from those of you that went with Innovative, claiming bad customer service.....is this still holding true?

-Is Gearhead the preferred company to buy tunes from?

-if not please let me know where I should buy my tunes from....I just need the basic extreme street nothing too crazy.

ANY ADVICE is welcomed....

Thanks
Joe

You can get the SCT from where ever you want. Then call the company that you want to get the tunes from and tell them your stratagy and they will send you the tunes in an email.

As far as customer service goes with innovative. I have had good luck with them. They are great to deal with, and wouldn't hessitate to buy anything from them. That being said, I do plan to go with gearhead the next time I get tunes. Nothing wrong with innovative, just read a lot of good things about gearhead, and would like to try out there tunes. Kind of just want to have tryed both to make a better recomendation to members. You know what I mean.

Totally understand and appreciate the advice...... I have an email to Matt @ gearhead and am waiting for a response. This is basically what I am looking for:

-a stock tune with EGR strategy removed (I have an EGR delete that retained the EGR valve and am subject to smogs and visuals so I kept it in place)

-a stock tune with EGR strategy removed with turbo braking and firm shifting for towing my 37' toyhauler 5th wheel....I know it sounds odd but for some reason my stock headbolted truck spits coolant (at recommended level)with ANY type of TOW tune installed. I currently use an older Superchips 1704A tuner and the canned TOW tune just doesn't agree with it

-a street performance tune with great power and safe for stock headbolts.....for daily driving.

If you get the sf3 you can do the first 2 yourself, it will tune out the egr and tune the tranny, also has a turbo brake mode.

Now with the X3, am I able to tweak tunes at all for example (someone mentioned it above) remove the EGR strategy myself or add turbo braking or is this something that CANNOT be done with either the X3 or F3?

Thanks for the help

My understanding, from sct website, you can do all with both! the only difference is the sf3 comes with canned tunes and will also accept custom tunes.

I got the X3 - did not really understand the difference when I bought it, but I doubt I would have used the canned tunes anyway. Matt sells 3 tunes for $100 - and I think they'll do everything you were looking for. He has been very helpful- its easy to contact him via email, he accepts paypal. Get the latest flash from Ford if you haven't yet - should be $80 (unless you don't want it).

I will probably get the latest flas since it is time to reflash mine anyway.....been many years and I heard it is a good one this time around.

Matt quoted me 490.00 shipped with the three tunes you speak of.....is this pretty much the going rate or should I look into buying the X3 on my own then buying Matt's tunes?

Thanks for the help

Joe

Not a bad price. you could save a few bucks by shopping around. You can find the tuner for 379. You may get the tuner cheaper.

I'd get the cheapest NEW SCT I could find and purchase the tunes separately. Fleabay is a total gamble unless you're getting it cheap enough to send to SCT and have it unlocked while still saving serious $$$.
