New Bosch fuel pump woes

I just finished putting a new Bosch fuel pump on my truck, this has been a week long job. No seriously, I started it last Saturday. Turns out the Bosch fuel pump is a direct OEM replacement pump, but you have to use the OEM fuel line fitting on the pressure side. The fellow that owned my truck first replaced the stock pump with a cheap autozone or eBay pump that came with its own fittings. Since the cheapo pump came with its own stuff he threw away all the OEM hardware. This being said the only place to find the proper fitting was to buy a new OEM pump assembly from ford for about $500, or at least I thought... turns out Strictly Diesel actually sales the fuel line quick connect fitting that fits the Bosch pump. This was a huge relief but not a cheap one, that stupid fitting was like $35 bucks but it’s a perfect fit. So as I said since my new fitting took several days to get here from Arizona a 15 min fuel pump change wound up taking a week. Long story short the new Bosch pump is in and working seamlessly with 70 psi fuel pressure at idle and man is it quiet. A word to the wise, check to make sure your current pump is OEM before ordering or buying the Bosch replacement. If you don’t, strictly diesel can help you out. Sorry for the business plug but they saved my bacon. .....

I do not understand the fascination so many have with Bosch. Airtex has been so much better to me.

seriously!!! Figured I’d post this to save someone a little stress. I was freakin out wondering where I was going to find that stupid fitting. The junk yard was my next option but there’s honestly not any diesel superdutys in any of the salvage yards around here.

no fascination, just people like what they like. I just got the Bosch pump which is the exact same as OEM for $77 and the one I had on my last f250 psd lasted over 200k miles and was still working when I sold the truck. I also noticed that the Bosch pump has a bigger inside diameter inlet and outlet than other pumps. The cheapo that was on my truck was only pushing 40psi of pressure and according to the guy I bought it from he just put it on back in Jan of last year. The airtex pumps that I looked at for my truck also had that cheesy looking plastic intake end that you had to thread the brass fitting onto. The Bosch pump is completely sealed on that end and crimped on the pressure end.

My guess is because they last for 100's and 100's of thousands of miles. Reliability and direct fit at a reasonable price. What more can you really ask for?

Somebody put a cheap aftermarket one on mine too and cut the factory wiring pigtails off. Unbelievable. At least I was able to put the right pump back on it without too much difficulty.

A better pump.
I had two Bosch to fail.

My last post on this thread. I know my anti Bosch comments are not wanted.
