Ford V10 Triton Engine

My 99 Bounder RV on a Ford Chassis is powered by a V10 Triton engine. The engine runs great but has an annoying "rattle" that comes and goes when shifting through the gears and when the engine is not under load at various crusing speeds. It is a "tincan" sound somewhat like a faulty EGR valve. When I drove from a warm climate north last winter, the sound went away after the outside temperature fell below 40F. This suggests it is a temperature sensitive valve of some sort.

Any ideas.

Thanks for the reply.

What is the purpose of the knock sensor and where is it located on the engine?

I don't have a clue where it is on your engine. But it's purpose is to monitor the pinging you are describing. The computer constantly adjusts the timing for best emissions and fuel mileage. So it advances the timing till it hears the knock sensor, and then cuts the timing back. This compensates for when you run lousy fuel, when the engine temp is up, etc.
