2002 F-250 Triton V 10
Can anyone give me any advise as a first time Ford buyer. I'm looking at a 2002 F-250 with the Triton V 10. It has about 48,000 miles and their asking 13,900. Sound like a good deal? What kind of engine life can I expect if it's well maintained? Gas mileage? Common problems? Your advise is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I have a 02 SD with V10 and love it. I have out pulled diesels with it already. Its not a race truck, but then if I wanted something to race, I will buy a Mustang. Only problem with these is the exhaust manifold studs are prone to breaking. Ford fixed this later on with stainless studs. Just have them replaced if not done already. Other than that, very solid truck

154k.... Ready for an engine replacement due to rod knock but it was well deserved.....
Almost daily 10-12k loads, bed fulls of rock and multiple cross country 8k TT pulls warranted the change. I'm sure I could just slap in some new bearings and It'll pull for another 150k at the same rate but I'm moving up to a PI motor this time.
Funny thing is the truck looks near new.

Sounds a little high to me, did you spec it out on the kelley blue book site?
Mine has 112,000 miles, but I did have a head replaced at about 40,000 miles due to a blown out plug. You have to make sure your plugs are torqued and seated properly. They could have done a heli coil repair, but since I had a service contract from Toyota, where I bought the truck, the Ford dealer went ahead and replaced the head to the tune of $3,000.
