2002 F-250 Triton V 10

Can anyone give me any advise as a first time Ford buyer. I'm looking at a 2002 F-250 with the Triton V 10. It has about 48,000 miles and their asking 13,900. Sound like a good deal? What kind of engine life can I expect if it's well maintained? Gas mileage? Common problems? Your advise is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

V10 = Solid
Deal = Priceless
Engine life = Personal 240,000 km
[ Friend works on 1 with 398000 km. towing trailer and bob cat.]
If you can tolerate 10 mpg average can leave it alone besides fluids and TLC and don,t run the **** out of it.
You will love it for a long time. Cheers

It would depend on model...4X4? ext.cab, reg.cab crew??? I wouldn't worry about longevity. There are a ton of guys on this website that have lots of miles on their V10's. I personally have 158,000 on my 2001 and still going strong.

I have a 02 SD with V10 and love it. I have out pulled diesels with it already. Its not a race truck, but then if I wanted something to race, I will buy a Mustang. Only problem with these is the exhaust manifold studs are prone to breaking. Ford fixed this later on with stainless studs. Just have them replaced if not done already. Other than that, very solid truck

That's a good deal considering the mileage. I'm selling a 03 King Ranch with a V10 for only 11.5k and if it doesn't sell, it's no big deal because we'd just keep it. Why? It's a great truck and the V10 is great engine.

I have to agree, great engine! I have the V-10 in my Excursion, 130,000 miles and still runs like a top! Good Luck!

Watch your oil level between oil changes. I used about a quart between oil changes, and only used full syn 5w-20 (31k miles). Other then that, mine 2003 runs like a dream on 87 oct. at 11 mpg with 35's.

Besides that sounds like a good price on the truck. Post pic's if you buy it.

I have a 2000 V10 Crew 4x4 with 238.000 miles and it runs smooth as silk. I also have a friend of mine with a 2004 V10 Crew 4x4 with 344,000 miles on it and it is still running strong.

154k.... Ready for an engine replacement due to rod knock but it was well deserved.....

Almost daily 10-12k loads, bed fulls of rock and multiple cross country 8k TT pulls warranted the change. I'm sure I could just slap in some new bearings and It'll pull for another 150k at the same rate but I'm moving up to a PI motor this time.

Funny thing is the truck looks near new.

What year did they go to the stainless studs?

Sounds a little high to me, did you spec it out on the kelley blue book site?

Mine has 112,000 miles, but I did have a head replaced at about 40,000 miles due to a blown out plug. You have to make sure your plugs are torqued and seated properly. They could have done a heli coil repair, but since I had a service contract from Toyota, where I bought the truck, the Ford dealer went ahead and replaced the head to the tune of $3,000.
