I have a 64 Custom Cab that does not have the side trim and is single color. It has a CC door handle guard on each door. I have always known it was ordered this way as I am the second owner. I have had people tell me that the guard behind the door handle was not correct for 1964 that CC should have been script on the door instead. I have had some pretty heated discussions when I have told them they were wrong and this is the way the truck came out of the factory. I recently have had the opportunity to speak with a knowledgeable writer with Vintage Truck magazine and he shed light on why my truck is this way. I thought all CC's came with the side trim if ordered as a CC. And to not have it it had to be ordered trim delete. Turns out a CC came with trim only if it was a two color custom cab. If it was a single color it came with no trim unless the trim was ordered as an option. With that said if it was ordered with the trim or was a 2 color CC then the Custom Cab would be script on the door. If it was a single color CC no trim option then the Custom Cab door handles would be put on the truck instead of the script. This makes sense to me and explains the no script on the door. Is this how it was in 1964?
Everything you said is correct. I could make one small clarification. There were two types of Two-Tone (a.k.a. Tu-Tone) paint jobs available.
Regular Two-Tone - Pickups and Cabs (the picture in my avatar is of a Regular Tu-Tone truck)
Deluxe Two-Tone - Styleside pickups*
*Includes body side moldings
Then the door plates say this.
