9,421 units sold. I understand it was only 2 months and one week in January, but with the OT I was expecting like 12k or an average of like 5k a month. No way Ford will be content with under 6k units a month. Rebates will be here by summer, along with a heavy push to fleet customers. I see dealers in MD, VA area advertising $38-$39k XLT sport 4wd Rangers for $34k already. Not sure if it's BS, but the one dealer goes so far as to say something like "The price you see is the price you get".... I will be interested come Fall if I can get a $45k Lariat for around $39k....
I am presently shopping for a midsize truck and will be buying in the next two to three months. As you probably know from my signature I am a Ford guy but I have to tell you the The Ranger is overpriced for what it is and the dealers (around here anyway) don’t seem to be interested in any serious dealing. If I already didn’t have my Super Duty I’d just buy an F-150 and be happy...
When I can get a Colorado ZR2 for 36-38K the Ranger Larriat at 43-45K doesn’t make any sense.
Now with the Jeep Gladiator launching it will add even more pressure on all the manufacturers to be more competitive.
I’m not trying to pick a fight with anyone but I am getting ready to retire and I have to start watching my pennies!

I am not sure that price is that big of an issue. The Colorados and Ridgelines are not cheap and have never had big rebates.
I am looking too and having a hard time digesting the 4-cylinder turbo engine. It looks good on paper, but long-term turbo is still something yet to be determined. If looking for a 4wd, don't overlook the 4x4 GMC Canyon. The auto 4-wheel drive option is something I intend to have on my next small truck. And outside of Ridgeline, this is the only AWD option on mid-sized trucks available. It is appealing if you discount typical GM reliability ratings.
I don't like any of them enough to buy one at these price levels. Will be looking at the 4x4 Canyon again at model year-end close out. Guess I'll still keep driving my 16 year old 4x4 Ranger for a while longer. Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It doesn't work hard - we have two F-150's for that duty. The smaller truck is sure handy though for a lot of things and I would like to have a new one. Trying to wait for next gen Ranger.
Turbo reliabilty is a non issue. I think Ford has it sorted out by now with over 6 million EcoBoost vehicles sold in the last decade and in F150s since 2011.

LSPI is a self-destructive issue that has only recently been identified and addressed, Who knows if the SN+ oil will really fix the problem.

I will not lose sleep over LSPI. I think port/direct injection (Which The Ranger does not have yet) is a better fix than any oil, but there are plenty of (gen 1) 200K+ EcoBoost engines in use that have been mainly trouble free. The ones that have had problems get posted on 25 different internet forums. . . . .
Reading the sales report Ford is saying transaction prices are something like $4,000ish higher than segment average. I also saw where they are saying inventory won't be at optimum level until Q3 or Q4, so prices may stay up there a bit until fall. I have not driven one yet, I will, but only if dealers will deal on them.
Of the problems complained about with Ford GTDI engines, I can’t recall LSPI being one of them. If there are any it’s probably an infrequent occurrence. Spark plugs are generally the cause of misfires/rough idle in engines over 40k miles.
On the 2015+ F150 board, the engine with the most reported issues are the 5.0s, particularly the 2018 all new version with plasma coated cylinders.
The Taco and Frontier are both riding on platforms that debuted in late 2004, and the Colorado is a GM product. That's not looking good for Ford at all. And considering that Jeep is selling about 20,000 Wranglers each month, my guess is the new Gladiator pickup will carry on that success and end up at the #1 spot on that list which will put the Ranger at #5.
The really sad thing is the Ranger was at the top of that list when it was discontinued in 2011. They should have never killed it in the U.S. market.
Ford should have brought their A-game. The single engine option is a downer, the fact that the 4-cylinder is that single engine option is a downer, the 8-year old interior is a downer, and honestly I think they just could have created more excitement and they missed an opportunity.
The good news is that the truly new Ranger for 2021 will more than likely address all of the shortcomings. Hopefully they'll make the new Bronco/Ranger a smash hit.
I think the numbers will be quite a bit different next quarters. We just ordered a Ranger, but we looked all over to even find one to test drive. They were selling as fast as the dealers could get them, except for 2wd XL's and XLT's.
There is only one engine, but it is also more powerful than any previous Ranger engine, well except for the 5.0l we stuck in our '99 4x4. Interior was fine and comfortable, expect the seat back adjustment isn't electric, which I found odd on a Lariat.
Second time in 2 months, they had 3 come in and they all sold the same week. Idk when we are going to get to drive one. My grandpa is very interested in a new Lariat but we can't even drive one
