I am getting ready to flush the Power steering fluid on my '94 E150 Club Wagon. The manual just says to use, "premium power steering fluid". Can I use Mercon V? About how much will I need to flush the system clean? What problems have folks run into when doing this?
Thanks

PS fluid isn't a whole lot more expensive than ATF, so are you mainly trying to save money? Autozone now has their store brand on sale at 2 quarts for $7. Of course I saw this right after I had bought 2 quarts of Prestone for $7 each.
I just did a flush on my '93 (with Saginaw pump) but I had it out of the van to replace the hoses. The radiator was out also, so getting in there was 'easier'. I'm thinking that removing the return line from the back of the pump and getting it clamped back on while everything is still together is not going to be fun. There's a bracket that is bolted onto the back of the pump that supports some cabling back there. Not sure if that would be in your way.
Not about cost. I want to stay within Fords OEM recommendations for fluid. I found my original manual and it spec'd Type F ATF. So, I'm going to flush and fill with Motorcraft Type F and add then 4 oz of Lubegard Power Steering fluid protectant. Page 304 1994 Club Wagon Owners Guide

OK, nice to have a second option I guess. I added the Lubegard to mine also.
