PSOM Questions

I am having a problem wiht my 1995 Ford Bronco 5.0,
Long story short diag showed bad speed sensor, replaced no change.
I was then told that I might need a new Programmable Speed Odometer Module.
It this just a module or the entire instrument cluster?

Does anyone know where to find one that is not to expensive?

I just posted almost the exact same question. If you find out the details on the PSOM please let me know.

Thanks,

Where is Steve83 when you need him? He is really the one to answer this question. He "collects" PSOM's from what he has said. Its my understanding that the PSOM is at least partly contained within the actual instrument cluster. I have never actually pulled one, so I am just going on information pieced together from history. I am not aware of these units being particularly problematic so to have a "dead" one sounds odd to me though not beyond the realm of possibility. If cleaning/replacing the VSS and clearing the computer didn't do the trick then it woudl seem to be the next logical failure. I don't know of any other components in the systm other than the actual shift control module. They can be found in junkyards everywhere and all the 92-96 F-series trucks use the same module AFAIK. As mentioned, Steve83 collects them so if you can get in touch with him, you may be able to get your hands on one that way.

I just replaced mine from one I purchased at a junkyard. The PSOM is in the instrument cluster and when I called the Ford dealership they wanted $600.00 (special order) as you have to buy the entire instrument cluster. The one I bought at the junkyard cost $100.00 and it was in better condition than my original one. BUT it wasn't the vss or the PSOM that was bad... it was the gear inside the differential (excitor ring) that had some teeth bent when someting went loose in there... in all I have to rebuild the differential.

Since I was having the same problem I checked out several places. One place is www.dashusa.com. They offer rebuilt PSOM and will ship you one with the correct settings for your tire size and set the Odometer to your last or approximate reading. They ship you the new one and then you ship your bad one back to them. The proce they quoted me for my 95 was $275.00. I don't know if they are a reputable place but it sounded better than buying the $600.00 deal from the dealer. I picked 2 Speedo/PSOM units up at the local salvage yard as well. Mine tuned out to ba a bad connection in the dash as it will come on and work if I smack the dash just above the speedo. I don't have a need for the other Speedo I bought so if you are interested in it let me know. I saw quite a few in the salvage yard here as well if anyone else is interested.

Thanks,
