Expanding on the previous reply......how old are the spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor? Fuel and air filter? Never overlook the obvious.

Did you route the plug wires properly? Cross-fire is a very common problem.

The question was "Did you route the plug wires properly?" That has nothing to do with what wires go to which plug. It's the routing to get from Point A to Point B.

What brand(s) are you using for the ignition components?

Have you run the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) tests and Stored Code display? Typically if the PIP output was erratic you would get a code for it. As well as other issues that may be flagged.

I'm going to end up taking it to a shop to have a diagnosis done with it taking a obd1 reader I have no check engine light on but I know these older vehicles won't always tell u to check the engine when something is wrong

Fuel filter and o2 sensor I'd look at too for maintenance depending on mileage and when they were last done.

Running a self diagnostic test on your truck is easy to do for codes, no code reader is needed. Google it up, there's lots of videos/threads on it. Report back with any stored codes from a key on engine off(koeo), and a key on engine running(koer) self test and you'll get lots more direction/help. Make sure the truck is warmed up to operating temp before you do it, otherwise that will throw extra codes.

Just did the fuel filter and pulled the O2 sensor and still acting up and check engine light is not coming on so I was just going to have a mechanic diagnosis it cause I know these older trucks check engine light won't come on for everything so u just got to put a scanner on it
