Running rough
ok ok so I have a problem with my 2002 7.3 power stroke about 2 months ago I noticed my coolant reservoir was full all the way to the top come to find out it was fuel. So I take the truck to a local shop they explain to me that it was the hose or tubes that run from injector to injector they were busted GOT THEM FIX two weeks later going down the highway about 65 I noticed the truck loosing power and missing a little got home turn it off 30 minutes later turn it on went to run some errands truck run fine no issues 3days later stared doing the same but more intense took it back to the shop they say that the wire harness on passenger side for injectors the connection was toast and making faulty connection well they fix it supposed 3 days later did the same well this time they say it was injector #8 replace it 3 days later the same happened this time injector#1 well here I am with the same problem yet again i put in over 2500 on labor and parts and the problem still there any suggestions on what could it be
For example, say a tech runs a cylinder contribution test (CCT) on his fancy-dan scanner to see how each hole is doing it's job. Well cyl 8 always shows the worst. Every. Effing. Time. Only the Lord and a laughing accountant at IH knows how many injectors have been replaced for absolutely no reason. It shows worst because it fires after 6 which is immediately before it in the fuel flow, so the fuel pressure available to 8 is always less. So a bit less fuel gets injected and voila, cyl 8 shows as "bad". Completely normal.
But anyway, sounds like 2 problems. First check the coolant res again for fuel. Fuel there is often a result of failing injector cups. Which is not a fun job, from what I hear. The other diagnosis of bad wire harness makes sense, that fault crops up regularly. It will often show as a P1316 code. Let us know any codes you have. The fix is new under valve cover harness, aka UVCH. And sometimes the VC gasket or wires that connect to it. What happens is the harness inside the VC loses connection and the voltage arcs across the gap, that makes heat and melts the plugs and harnesses till they don't work anymore. Often you can see it inside the harness that connects to the valve cover, pop it off and inspect for burnt pins or melted plastic.
And think about when the missing occurs. Does it happen only when the truck is warmed up? That could be IPR going south.
The only "tube" that goes from injector to injector are the rails that are drilled through the heads to connect the injectors for fuel and high pressure oil. Since the "tube" is actually just a hole running through the head, there is no "tube" to fix. Fuel in the coolant likely should have been an injector cup replacement. If that's what they did, how many did they do, and did they give you the option of doing one side or all of them as long as they were in there? Did they install new o-rings on the injectors when they put things back together (if they did replace any cups)? Did they show you the "bad" wiring or was it possibly something they just either didn't plug in all the way or maybe they broke a retaining clip on the harness.
As mentioned above the fuel goes from the fuel filter bowl on top of the engine into the heads thru a internal fuel rail to all injectors. Sounds like the injector cups failed, if it was bad injector orings the fuel filter would be black from mixing oil into the fuel.
I echo what Beef **** has asked, where are you located? We have a great network of people that will reference a good shop near you if it is needed. Most of the time though, we can help you resolve the issue yourself if you keep feeding information and pictures if needed.
Hmmmmm, 1st post and hasn't been back? Yeaaahhhhhh.......
