5.7 hemi vs 7.3 powerstroke

Hey guys,
so me and my big mouth kinda challenged my uncle to a race. His is a 2005 ram 1500 auto with the 5.7 and I’ve got a 2001 F250 7.3 auto with a few mods. My question is how much of a chance do I have at actually winning? Lol

With out knowing your mods all I can offer is to do a boosted launch in 4x4 and you might have a chance in the first 60ft.

Welcome to FTE. Sometimes it’s better to remain silent...

Probably very little, there’s a big Weight difference, turbo has to spool. However, you could hook up 10K pounds to both trucks and make it interesting.

ive got a cold air intake, 4 inch turbo back exhaust, blue fuel spring, drilled out the banjo bolts, and an edge 6 position chip. My truck also has a flatbed idk If that effects the weight much.

yeah that’s what I figured lol. But if you google “2005 5.7 0-60” the best number I can find on a stock truck is about 8 seconds. And doing the test myself I get about 9 seconds and I haven’t put a boost foolery on yet

You lose.

The 5.7 is rated at 345 horsepower at the crankshaft so subtracting the standard of 20% drivetrain loss puts him at about 270 RWHP. Your 7.3 on a good day with stock injectors will only make about that much (nothing you have as a "mod" adds any power except the aftermarket tuning) and your pickup weighs a lot more than his.

You could tighten your wastegate rod. Pull the red line off and plug it to build a little more boost. Your flatbed probably adds weight.

Like others have said put it in 4x4 and do a boosted launch.

You may want to go ahead and forfeit the race, then stick around here and learn more about how to modify the 7.3L. The fact that you said "80 horse injector nozzles" was a dead giveaway.

These trucks aren't fast, even modified. I do appreciate a good bench-racing thread though, takes me back to my college years on NASIOC. Now Subies, those can be made FAST.

Nozzles have nothing to do with being single shot or split shot.

However much you plan to put down as a bet make sure you can pay it. You'll make smoke, but he won't see any of it unless he's looking in the mirror through binoculars.

Now that's classic
Apparently you have no clue that you are replying to one of the best early tune writers for the 7.3L, and Cletus being the other insanely desired 7.3 tuners.

As mentioned before tho, unless you are racing while towing trailers up a hill expect to lose. Unless his engine/trans is in very bad shape, or he confuses the gas and brake for a good while when the tree turns green

If this is any help, a screen shot of my best 0-60mph with a stock motor in 100% good order with a DP tuner hot tune, in 2wd, open rear & some wheel spin.

Versus stock tune

2wd, zero wheel spin!
