Update 59 build
things are going great with the build. Very happy with everything thus far. Knowledge on the forum has been invaluable and saved me $1000s. Sniper carb, fuel pump, rear sealed up, fuse block installed, wiring harness for accessories, and upholstering the bench seat at the moment. Given the power demands, the truck needs something stronger than the old generator, so I’ll be doing the gen to alt swap. I was going to use spacers and the old bracket as others have already done, but I’m trying to think a bit ahead. JEGS has an alt-a/c bracket for $150, but says I’ll need to replace the crank pulley as well. Another $150.... the trucks going to get a/c this spring. The only hiccup is the performance gets squared away next winter. After I upgrade the suspension, mustang 2 front end most likely. Blowers are 2 expensive for minor HP gains $3000+ from Rex hp. I want 500 out of the truck. Friends got a Nova, so it’s mostly about being faster than him. This’ll happen by stroking to a 331, lower compression heads, cam, then adding a turbo. This is an expensive option compared to buying a used 351 rebuild/stroke kit cam and heads for similar HP. Any opinions regarding the set up? The y block is cool and different, but is this a practical and reliable set up for the HP I want out of it?
