i have a 351 c with a few problems starting it. this is all new to me and a friend who is helping me. i know the firing order is 1-4 on the passinger side and 5-8 on the driverside. i have brought the crank around to 0 onthe harmonic , withe the 1st on TDC(when my finger was pushed by the air out the sparkplug hole) this is where we have trouble. Where is the rotor suposed to point? once it is in the right spot, thats one than go counterclock wise in my firing order? thanks for you help Roger
Yes, the rotor should point to the #1 distributor cap terminal with the #1 cylinder on TDC of the compression stroke. That sets your ignition timing to zero (TDC), which will make it easy to start the engine, but the best timing for running is usually a few degrees before TDC.
I'd suggest lining up the #1 terminal when the harmonic balancer is set to 10 degrees before TDC on the compression stroke.
Once you have the #1 terminal identified, attach the other plug wires to the dist cap in firing order sequence, going counter-clockwise.
