can anyone tell me the big difference between the 351m and the 400 engines? which is a better overall engine. everyone i've talked to down plays the 351m. but yet you cant find then in the junkyards everyone is buying them? as you tell i'm not up to date on fords

this is what i have read so far...
the 400 and 351m use the same block but have different pistons and crank, thats it. so people buy those 351m most likely because they are going to make the a 400 when they go rebuild it. i think the 400 is better overall because they use lighter pistons, longer stroke and more power out of basicly the same engine as the 351m if you have a 351m go get it rebuilt with 400 parts and you have a 400, and you can use all of your parts like headers intake and carb.
All of the parts on a 351M will interchange with a 400. The only difference between a 351M and a 400 are the crankshaft and pistons. Think of the 400 as a 'stroker' 351M.
