Ordered the floormat from JBG, got the aftermarket, "heavier duty" one, wow, super thick. I have never done one before, kept it inside, unfolded, started last Sunday putting it in, what a PITA, I have the initial fit and it's in the truck, now to fine tune.
Any suggestions? I'm not a carpet/interior guy, so I have no skills or experience doing it.
What's the best way to trim it to fit and to get the bumps/bubbles/lumps out?
Put it in the sun. It's black, so it will absorb some heat. Push, pull, tug....work around until it's all settled in. Don't assume the edges will line up with the floor edges. If you have to stretch it you can always trim off the excess.
I had to order the padding separately, and we haven't had good sun for a bit, rainy, cold and around 40*, I figure I'll get it in but snug and then do a finish fittin when it warms up, just don't know the best way to trim and make it fit, it already looks a ton better than the original that was just toast. Did new door panels, window anti-rattle felt, new door weatherstripping, it's AMAZING the difference!! Now it's quiet on a bumpy road, no wind noise at 60, kick myself for not doing it years ago. If your contemplating it, just bite the bullet and do it, so worth it.
No,,, just an over sized piece of rubber, semi-molded in the shape of the floorpan, not super happy with it, it may end up in my 77 F240 4x4, it's basically a piece of,rubber/plastic that you need to cut and trim for everything, kinda disappointed, can't believe they don't make one that just "fits", I know, it'd take more time for each specific truck, but it's either Man trans or auto, 4x4 or not, I think it could be made much better IMHO.
