Caliper Bolt

The bolt that holds the key in place on one of my calipers had the head snapped off. Does anybody have any tips for drilling out the rest of the bolt?
I tried to drill a pilot hole and use a device to get the bolt out and still maintain the original thread but I seem to have buggered that up.

Yup! I broke the same bolt on the drivers side. Damm hard to drill them bolts out, Buggered mine up also. Ended up drilling out what I could then rethreading the hole and using a standard bolt, Don't seam to cause any problems.

You can tap and drill a new hole in the other side the slide bar where the second hump is, or just slide it over 3/4 of an inch and tap a new hole. Broke one off myself, then drilled the bolt, broke the bit off in the bolt, got the bit out, finished drilling hole , then broke off easy out in the bolt ( they don't come out). Then got mad , dented firewall with hammer and went in house. Next day drilled new hole on the other side, put in new bolt and then fixed firewall. Thought you may like that, it was 20 yrs ago and now have developed patients.

Heating the area may help get the broken part out.
Put some anti-seize on the threads of these bolts.

Yep, soak it in PB blaster, put some heat on it and attempt to get it out. I had to do that to get my drag link out the other day, and it popped out after torching it. A stubborn bolt will do the same.
