Hey, heads up to anyone purchasing ranch hand bumpers.
Long and short of the storey is the product rusted after owning it for 2 months.
I live in Canada and I believe ranch hand is based out of the United States. So their warranty for me to ship the product to them and get it back would be the same value as the bumper. Not a good finished product.
Nice to spend so so much on after market bumpers and be told it’s my issue.
when questioned if anything else could be done this was their response
.................
I would contact your dealer you purchased this from. What typically happens is they can call their distributor to find out if they have one in stock in Canada.
You can touch up paint this one yourself or warranty.
Just working with Cap-it now they are looking into it. Turns out the back bumper is rusting on both corners and the front on in 3 separate spots almost like it wasn’t prepped properly. Rusting through making the paint peel off. I guess Cap-it staff is getting the run around from ranch hand.
Oh and update they did end me a can it f spray paint to fix it haha
Are we really complaining about surface rust inside a hitch? How's the overall bumper? Powder coat tends to miss those areas and field applied paint is the norm.
Well when the bumper drips rust yes I am complaining .... and it’s rusting from under the powder coat. Clearly not done right. If cap it is looking to replace it then clearly is not “normal” as you described ,...
Oh and bumper is solid for now until it rusted away haha. Again it’s both front and back I’ll try to post more
pictures of it bubbling through the powder coat
Saw this posting a little late but anyway...I have the legend front bumper on my 350, living in Vermont where they salt heavily for 6 months of the year. My bumper rusted at every edge cut, especially at the stamped/perforated plate at the grill, every hole was rusting under the powdercoat. I got an exchange under warranty, that one lasted less than a year before it rusted and now I just touch it up myself with a brush. Same with the tube running board/steps from them, rusted under the powdercoat and flaked paint off. Replaced those once but every year I repaint them myself.
I see plenty of those aftermarket bumpers all rusty around here. Look great when they're new, but rust pretty quickly. That got me to weld up my own on my last truck, it didn't get powder coated because it is easier to do a little sanding and just spray new paint on it each spring. It forms some light rust just as fast as these expensive powder coated ones.
Seems like every aftermarket one I see has deteriorated from salt relatively quickly. I think one out of stainless steel or weathering steel would be awesome but the cost of materials and the difficulty of working with them would preclude that.
take the bumper off and have it sprayed with something like line-x or something. If you're worried about steel rusting in Canada, a heavy steel bumper probably ought to be more than powder coated. Ranch Hand is based in Texas. Rust isn't as big of an issue. That being said, I wonder if it sat outside in the elements before it was installed? Might be why the dealer is having trouble getting any help from Ranch Hand.
