Dash Trim Holes

Here's a picture of the dash in my 66 CC. I finally got a decent trim piece that goes on the dash under the windshield. There are 2 sets of holes all the way across. If I use the top set of holes I can see a small bit of the bottom holes and vice versa. Is one set of holes for the trim and other for the dash pad? Or are they something a PO did or is this normal? I'm not putting the dash pad back in unless I have to. Thanks!

When I first looked at your post I thought someone drilled extra holes into your Dash. But no. I'll attach before and after shots of my '66 F250 Camper Special. I have the same double holes but they don't show. I didn't use the padded dash. I don't remember which holes I used, but does my weather strip look thicker to you?

I wish I remembered what holes I used but that was 5 years ago!
Good luck
Rich

Weatherstripping is in place. Got it from Dennis Carpenter. Sure does look like yours is wider. I'd say by comparison, you used the lower set of holes, if you used the upper set I'm guessing I'd see some of the bottom holes showing? Might go back over the weatherstripping along the bottom with something to see if its folded up somehow. Don't believe that's the case though, rope pulled out fine on windshield install.

My 65 has only one set of holes, the dash pad and trim had been removed years ago. I just used some push in plastic trim buttons to fill the holes so they would still be there in case I ever wanted to install a pad. Sounds like the pads on both of your trucks has been replaced at some time and they either couldn't locate the original holes or they wouldn't line up and they just drilled some new ones.

With a factory installed padded dash, the holes for the moulding clips would have been punched out and equally spaced.

If dealer or owner installed, the holes would have been drilled out and so would have burrs on their backsides.

Drilling the holes and installing a padded dash on a truck that didn't come with one would take patience, because when the factory did it, the windshield was installed afterwards.

Drilling the properly spaced and aligned holes with the windshield in place was difficult, to say the least.

I know this because several months after I bought it (new), I installed a padded dash on my '65 F100 Standard Cab.

Thanks all. Guess I'll just live with it. With the trim in, the small amount of hole showing it not really noticeable if your not looking. One of those "I know it's there". I'm having the interior done in Pegasus gunmetal and thinking about doing the dash in that ILO the black padded. Still on the fence on that. I will look for the burrs on the backside though.

My 66 only has one set of holes. You know they are there but most others will never notice.
