alternator conversion

1963 f250 4x4
lokks like my generator is not keeping up with the electronic ignition distributer and so I am looking at going with an alternator. I see where Speedway sells a bracket but I have no idea which alternator to use. Really don't want to start a collection of pulley's to get proper alignment so I'm asking for input and advise on which alternator works. As long as I'm asking I might as well ask for wiring advise too.
thanks, gatorjaws
P.S. can someone also explain how to post pictures to go with threads)in the simplest way possible please,I am a tech idiot)

Generator replaced by alternator

I have a 1964 with a 292 that I replaced the gen with an alternator. I purchased this bracket from Speedway, 1954-64 Ford Truck Y-Block Alternator Bracket Part # 91667914, It was easy to install. Then I went to the battery, alternator, starter business in my town and asked what they would recommend. They said that a GM one wire would be the lowest cost for a replacement. It looks like many people go that way for simplicity.

I settled on a three wire GM alternator however. I wanted to use the GEN indicator light on the cluster gauges to know if I had the key on or off and if it wasn't charging the battery the indicator light would glow. It takes the three wire for that information to light up the dash light.

My intention was to leave the regulator installed on the fender well, I thought it would be cool to have the shade tree mechanics to scratch their heads as to an alternator using a remote regulator.
However to get the light on the dash to work properly I had to remove the regulator and wiring so it didn't feed back through the starter solenoid, then back into the dash light.

It looks better without it now that it's gone anyway, plus the light works like a champ. I did have to get the battery guys to sort out the wiring for me so that the light would work. They are the guys who noted the regulator wiring even though not used was interfering with the feed to the dash light.

They also told me that they had seen a number of brackets used on these engines but they liked the simplicity of this one and the way it allows the alternator belt to be adjusted.

Oh and by the way I bought my Alternator with a pulley installed. Once I had it mounted I needed a shorter fan belt which i got from a local parts store. I took the old belt in with me and asked them for one that would be three or four inches shorter.

As for a tutorial on posting pics, I'm also uninformed as to how that works. Sorry.
