I’m trying to find the evap canister on 2012 E350 V8 gas. Looked behind gas tank near axle and nothing there. Anyone have any clue where the canister is on this van? I’m hoping that I can clean out the canister or replace it so that I can fill this dang van up with gas without the pump clicking off every couple of seconds.
I checked those and they’re fine. That’s why I was thinking canister, but I can’t find it.
the canister is on the frame by the fuel filter. The purge valve is closed with the engine off so it's not your issue. You verified the filler neck hose isn't crushed at the frame rail?
Yep, took both hoses off and they’re both fine- no kinks or obstructions. Something is making this tank burp when I try to fill it cause I have to basically trickle the gas in there to get it filled. Takes about 10 mins to fill the tank.
Often times this condition is due to the filler neck vent tube being clogged with fuel from past over filling. If you can run some sort of small stiff wire or electrician's fish tape through that tube it might cure your issue.
The filler and vent tubes can both look perfectly okay but sadly that's not always a reliable inspection.
Snaked the lies today - what a pain- but they’re both clear. I did find the canister. Stupid thing is above the gas tank! So can’t tell what’s going on there until I drop the tank. Chased the vent line to rear axle and blew air through it- clear. Unrelated but - Never did find the gas filter. Anyone know where that is? I’m gonna fill up tomorrow to see if anything has changed. If not then I guess it’s gonna mean dropping the tank and ordering a new canister. Anyone know if there is some sort of electrical switch/valve that could be bad and causing no venting?
My 2008 has a fuel filter on the left side of the frame, but I saw a post where someone claimed a 2011 only has a screen in the tank, no inline filter.
I think that’s true, because I chased the fuel line all the way to to engine and didn’t see any filter. So weird. Filled up today and no dice - still burps and shuts off the pump if I try to pull the trigger more than just a tiny bit. This is so stupid. I’m gonna have to drop the damned gas tank to get to the canister.
