Hi,
Maybe someone can help. I have a 1998 super duty 10 cyl on a cutaway bus chasis and I began to get a gas odor a while back. The odor seems to get stronger when I turn to the right or left. I have checked the gas lines with no leaks. I even changed the 2 hoses from the gas tank. Someone told me that it could be the gas regulator(changed it too)and the odor still persists. Can someone help?
First, I'll say that I know nothing about your application. Does it have an EVAP system? I would assume that it does. That is where I would start. It is possible that the system is venting fuel vapor into the atmosphere because of a cracked hose or even a hose that has pulled away from the canister. I would look for maybe a leak near the canister first, then the hose from the canister to the engine compartment, then work my way down the vent line to the tank. It is possible to have a bad purge solenoid as well.
I saw that happen on a similar truck pull the canister and see if it has gas in it if it does there is an "orifice" as they call it that has either been removed as the one I was working on or the orifice has failed. If not write back and I can try to help. I agree with the previous post as well another good place to start.
