HPOP Replacement No Start

Just replaced hpop on my 2001 7.3 and no start.
Gear drive bolt set at 95 ft lbs
hpop res is full

Diesel fuel has been in tank for over a year, could fuel be an issue with no start?

Thanks.

Seems I recall I had to crank mine about 3-4 times for 20-30 seconds each time resting for about the same amount of time in between attempts before it fired, then one more time before it ran. But I had oil in my HPOP to start with.

Have you double-checked all your sensor connections?

Any time you open the HPO system it takes a lot of cranking to bleed it out so it will start.

If u tried turning it over with no oil in the hpop res, it just became a small airpump. After each 15sec interval with 1min of starter cooldown, id recheck res and fill accordingly

Sometimes it's dumb "little" things like I put the IPR external sensor (slides over the IPR rod and is secured by the tin nut) on backwards. Reversed it and it started immediately.

temp sensor wires on the egr system right below a coolant line on a friends 6.0litre was a tough one, hose had worn right thru the casing in the wire it was really hard to find so checking all sensor plugs for frayed wires is a great idea. after i rebuilt my 7.3 it took quite a lot of revolutions to prime the system enough to make it fire back up, just make sure you have patience and don’t overheat your starter motorcraft starters are like 700$

Lance, dude! I appreciate your desire to help. But save your good insights on a recent thread where someone needs help. Not something a year old where the answer is done.

Plus 6.0 tech is mostly not applicable to 7.3s, HEUI injectors are common but not much else.

Stay around! We want helpful folks around here. This is a community of Ford diesel fans of the 7.3 variety, but anybody who wants to contribute is welcome. It's a Sunday potluck so add something and take something.
