It gets very cold where I live. Been driving diesels exclusively for 35 years. I won't have a vehicle without a block heater. This time of the year I plug my truck in for a minimum of two hours and use the supplemental heater. Rarely run the engine for more than a minute or two before pulling away and don't drive like I stole it. Have heat fairly quickly and NEVER have a problem keeping the windshield clear. Makes heat faster than my 97' Powerstroke did, but I was never cold in that truck either.

Reason: additional comment.
my supplemental heater just knocks the chill off. it doesn't heat the cab up that much.
^^^this is how mine is. the truck with the sup heat gets warm in 10 mins, then gets retarded hot. the truck without sup heat takes about 12-15 mins to get hot, then it's just hot.
EDIT: What I meant to say, mine just knocks the chill off, until about 10 mins, then it gets retarded hot. the truck without, is just down right cold until 12-15 mins
