Hello. We have a 2006 F350 regular cab at work that has the front axle seals fell out. What could cause that?
They all do this. It was a poorly designed dust seal to begin with. The updated part stays in place a bit longer but they too are know to become permanently dislodged. Just take a pair of wire cutters and remove it so it doesnt continue to flop around as the truck is driven.
The oil seal on a Dana 60 is inboard near the pumpkin.
It's been a problem since the launch of the super duty in 1999. My dads 2000 was done under warranty twice I think then after that I just removed them, my 2004 was done at around 13k and then they failed again so I simply removed them. I have 169k now and my oil seals dont leak one drop. I dont "off road" my truck but it sees it's fair share of 4wd use
They changed the seal a few years back.. seems to be pretty good now.. Thats the dust seal behind the ujoint.. If you are talking about the big seal thats another story... They dont usually fall out.. They can come apart.
