Is it possible for a head gasket to blow in a oil passageway and into a cylinder without mixing with coolant? I have low compression in cylinder 5 and blue smoke but no coolant loss. I had a spark plug blow out of this cylinder at one point in time.
I guess it's possible, but I would run a compression test on all cylinders, including #5. A more likely scenario is that maybe something got into the combustion chamber during the spark plug ejection event and damaged something.

thanks for the quick reply redford, I ran a compression test on all cylinders already and cylinder 5 is the only one with low compression, that plug didn’t break and the threads weren’t damaged somehow, somebody just didn’t tighten it down all the way. I can do the work myself I was just curious if anybody had any problems like this before. It’s a 5.4 triton btw
Therefore, it is a 1999-2004 2V 5.4L or 6.8L Triton.
If #5 is showing low compression, you might try a leakdown test, but at the end of the day you'll be doing a teardown anyway, or at least pulling 1 head.

Have y’all heard of a head gasket going bad at an oil passageway? I know the head gaskets leaking oil is common but my motor doesn’t look oily on the exterior btw I forgot to mention all the other cylinder where 140-150 except this one

Do you have access to a bore scope or anything that will help you get a look in there through the spark plug hole?
I bought head gaskets and bolts today, but I’d still like the get valve seals so I’m gonna go ahead and get everything tore down and hopefully pieced back together soon, kinda sucks because I just redid the timing and installed a new oil pump and was gonna replace the head gaskets then, but decided not to because I was to my oil pump went out.
Yes it is, I’ve got both heads off and stripped to be shaved but before I do that I’d like to get a straight edge and a feeler gauge to see if it even needs to be shaved, Tell me what you think about this head gasket. I didn’t see any obvious signs that the gasket was bad but valve seals were definitely worm (barely holds the valve up). What’s the best step to take next?
