Recently my 2003 ford excursion’s radio’s volume has started fluctuating. At random points while listening to the radio or the aux the volume will randomly turn all the way up and sometimes all the way down. Most of the time it turns up. All the fuses are fine and nothing is blown. Any way to fix or prevent this?
The rheostat is toast when this starts happening...it is just wore out. I had the same problem with my Expedition volume ****. Ended up going to salvage and getting a radio from another Expy, and it works great.
I have a similar problem if I adjust volume using the ****. I just use the steering wheel control and it works fine. Just waiting to swap out my HU for something more modern...
Mine (2004) started doing the volume up/down and then progressed to flipping through stations & modes as though the steering wheel controls were flaky. As far as I could tell, though, the steering wheel controls were fine, and eventually the radio quit working altogether. In fact, the display would only come on when my lights were on, and it was completely dead apart from that. Replaced it with a Kenwood & steering wheel controls adapter, backup camera, etc., from Crutchfield. I'm slowly getting it fully set up.
