Weird blower fan issue

Hey! First post here, long time reader on here but need some advice. Been searching multiple forums here for hours now including here!

I have a bulletproofed 06’ F350 Lariat/ auto/ 4x4. It’s has the EATC setup. Randomly recently the blower fan quit on all settings.

I found the fan to have an open circuit so I replaced it. The fan would after that only work on the highest setting. All others it was off.

Thought maybe the fan speed controller beside it was a dud so I replaced that and now the fan blows high on ALL settings when turned on.

Swapped the relay (303? I think) and didn’t change anything.

Running out of ideas here. Other then the EATC controller in the dash I’m not sure what else could be wrong.

Thanks for any input.

I’m not sure on the 6.0L but on the 7.3L that’s the resistor. Go to YouTube there’s probably a video of it being replaced.

The EATC version doesn't have a "resistor", it has a blower speed control module instead.

Still sounds like a bad blower module. You might have replaced one with one particular failure mode with a module that has a different failure mode. The EATC is the only other thing possible, except wiring. The blower relay cannot cause your symptoms, it can only cause a "no blower operation" symptom.

The factory service manual does have a comprehensive diagnostic routine to help pinpoint the fault.

The EATC controller works fine I don’t think it’s the problem and I too think it’s the module, kinda strange a brand new one would fail. This one I bought is for a 07’, wasn’t a listing for 06’.

How do you know? Did you make the requisite checks of the control and feedback circuits that control the blower motor speed module?

06 and 07 use the same module.

I learned a LONG time ago (the hard way, of course) that just because a part is new does not automatically mean that it's good. It's only classified as good when that has been proven.

I had an 06' F350 with the same problem. I replaced the blower speed control which was a large transistor module in a heat sink. I think it is just a voltage divider.

It sits on the firewall under the hood just behind the blower on the passenger side. The blower motor speed is high by default when this goes out. Very common problem.

Check connector

They call it a resistor module, but on the 06' F350 it was a large transistor sitting down in a heat sink.

Yeah, that's pretty much what it imitates. Allows the blower speed to be pretty much "continuously variable" instead of only four steps like the manual systems. It does appear to have an internal relay that bypasses the transistor when the blower is to be at "Max".
The blower motor speed is high by default when this goes out.
Unless the internal relay happens to also fail.... However, max speed is the most commonly seen failure mode.
They call it a resistor module
By "they", I assume you're referring to auto parts stores. Ford doesn't call it that, they distinguish it, by using its correct name, from the basic resistor module used in the manual system.

I don’t really want to throw parts at it, it be nice to find another EATC dash controller to try and swap out to rule it out.

it seems to me it’s the blower module still, does anyone have a method of testing it on a bench? Resistance checks or such. I still have the old module would like to see if it’s the culprit or it’s something else.

Check the connector. After I installed the module, the connector didn't feel fully seated but it worked. So I left it alone.

As you know, the module is in a tough and tight spot.

The 2006 6.0L F350 Blower Motor Resistor Module looked like this.

Some are found under the glove compartment. Mine was under the hood, passenger side firewall.

References and cautions say be careful with the connector since older module connectors can be brittle.

Protect the cable connector end. Sacrifice the module to protect the cable connector.

Oh ya, I’m aware I’ve replaced that already. Ya the connectors are brittle it’s annoying lol. It’s on the hvac box beside the fan.

Update:

Solved! The big connector for jumper harness that goes to the speed module had loose contacts. Cut it off and hard wired and everything works.

Thanks for the help! .
