Hey guys, I ordered a 2* caster shim from WFO. Yes I failed to see that they are sold singly so I have a second one on the way. Problem is I am tearing into my Ex tomorrow to replace ball joints, steering gearbox and other suspension stuff. I was planning on putting the shims in while I had the front end torn down. Is it ok to run the shim on one side but not the other for a few days?
I would rather only have to break down one side twice rather than both sides twice to put the shims in. Any suggestions?
Well on second thought, I don’t really think it is a good idea because it will probably induce some steering issues being uneven caster from side to side. I just hate having to do work twice......
The axle housing can’t twist but the springs can, you would end up with about 1* of additional caster.
its an old school jeep trick, need 2* of additional caster but only have a 4* shim, Split it and install the 4* on one side and let the springs fight over it. Same thing with your 2* shim.
I'm still a X newbie, Is this issue the same as having 3-4" of play in the steering? I have that and am planning to change the steering box to correct it.
