Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Heading up the mountain. Last day of 1st season Coast Bull Elk. 3 out of 7 tags filled. Only two of us diehards hunting today.
Well my dad and I got skunked. Besides a herd of cow elk we saw on private land the night before the season opened we didn’t see a single elk. Lots of old sign and some very fresh sign, but couldn’t find a bull. Still got to spend time together and see some beautiful country. And the weather was nice.
Hey Jim, my dad says you two were fishing at the same spot east of Roseburg somewhere back 30 something years ago. Says he remembers the warning you gave him the first time you met there and you were in uniform.

Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 48.8 and overcast.
I've been on the phone for the last couple of hours with the mortgage company trying to get, what I consider to be an illegal scam squared away. Haven't succeeded in undoing what they did so I have to make a run into town today...

We didn't do as well this year as we were hoping. We were pretty excited when I found that bull the afternoon before the hunt. But, that was all a couple of us saw. My long term partner's son and a couple of others in our group rode mountain bikes for over 2 hours getting back in behind a locked gate. They got the 5X5 and spike opening morning. A second trip, 'hail Mary', that was almost as long got a spike yesterday. Partner and I both had medical issues we are recovering from and were restricted from doing what we were doing anyway. We overdid it Monday and he had to stay home in bed yesterday. I made it out, but wasn't able to make it as far up the mountain as I wanted to. I was going to take the mountain bike and ride in with the young fellows, but just couldn't go that far.
Mist style rain on the last day of the season. Pickup is over the distant ridge. Sunrise in the mountains. 3 miles in and still going. Mother natures bridge over the creek. River Crossing. Beautiful day on the mountain. The only thing missing were the elk. Close, that wasn't there just an hour earlier... About 5 miles up the road from my house. Some timber company's have way too much time on their hands...

You were doing just fine until you got to the "way back 30 something years" part! O.K.. He must have been in my private fishing hole?
I'll have to admit your dad does look familiar, but I've never been able to figure out why. Maybe that is it...
He Logged outside Roseburg, then worked in the ER for a while in Roseburg with Kitzhaber, then worked as a paramedic for an ambulance service before he got hired into Salem Fire Dept. he said the first time you ran into each other you told him to be more discreet with the 6 pack he had with him.

Working in the ER when Kitzhaber was there, Dr. Driver, Dr. Norris, Dr. Edwards and others, and working for one of the two private ambulance companies, we absolutely had to cross paths on multiple occasions....
I don't recall the six pack thing...he must not have offered to share.
