'77 F250 351M. Truck wouldn't start this morning so I Ohmed the coil got 1.6 primary and 8300 secondary so went and got a new one and a cheap chinese ICM as a "just in case behind the seat emergency fixer". Installed the new coil still no start so installed the chinese ICM and she started right up.(?). Is there a way to put a meter to the old Motorcraft ICM to see if its any good? Hate to toss it in place of a chinese el cheapo model!!!
Swap it back in see if it works? The problem with these seems to be cracking solder joints from excess heat. You theoretically could repair that module just by reflowing solder. Always carry spare module if you put the old back in....

Apparently the coil was O.K. and the ICM wasn't. During the 1970s Ford had troubleshooting methods for the ignitions. Your test was more straightforward. You could try the old one again to be sure, but it is likely faulty. Heat seems to be their enemy. My Duraspark II is on it's 3rd or 4th ICM. The Motorcraft & NAPA modules seem to last longer. O'Reilly had lifetime warranties on theirs. Always carry a known good spare. I once had one fail in the AZ desert.
